AAT
Introduction
The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is a professional body for Accounting
Technicians, with more than 100,000 students, full and fellow members worldwide.
Formed in 1980, it is sponsored by 4 of the major accountancy bodies in the UK:- CIPFA,
ICAEW, CIMA and ICAS.
Accounting Technicians work in accounting and finance alongside other accountants in
commerce, industry, and practice, as well as in public and voluntary sectors. Typical
careers range from account clerks to credit controllers to finance managers. Some are
self-employed.
The AAT is unique in that it is the only specialist awarding body for National
Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) in accounting. The AAT awards NVQs/SVQs
(Scottish Vocational Qualifications) in Accounting at Levels 2, 3 and 4 – also known
as Foundation, Intermediate and Technician Stages of the AAT’s Education and Training
Scheme.
Entry Requirements
There are no minimum entry requirements for the AAT’s Education and Training Scheme,
although students are expected to have a good command of English and an interest in
Mathematics. Students with no background or experience in accountancy are advised to
commence their studies at the Foundation Level. The AAT will recognise a limited
number of alternative routes to membership, so that some students will not need to
complete all 3 stages of the scheme. |
